‘Thats cool…How much did that cost you?’
It’s often the first question that gets asked when you see something custom made, painted or built. You’re not buying an item off the shelf. You’re paying for somebodies expertise and time. Im always very transparent regarding the process involved in a custom paint job, to outline what you are paying for.
Its not just a matter of slapping on some paint.
All jobs are different, as all jobs are custom. Repairs and surface preparation, branding and logos stencil preparation, application of specialty paint affects, airbrush illustration, clear coat finishing and protective film application all influence the over all cost of a custom paint job. I know that does not help you so to give you an idea I have included some examples below. Basic paint and design starts from around $1300 for a basic colour and logo application, with gloss finish. A more complex design with logos, graphics, stripes and/or reproduction of branding including metallic colours can extend to $1300 - $1600. Airbrush Illustration and application of specialty paint such as pearls, flakes, candies, chromes or gloss and matte combinations on the finishes can extend beyond the $2500 mark. At Air ‘n’ Paint we offer a full design mock up to illustrate how the finished design will look on your bike. I can also provide test panels when colour matching is crucial to your design. We do all the lead up work before we even receive your bike. See more about this in the design page.
Repairs and Preparation
When referring to repairs and preparations, we’re referring to repairing the surface of the frame to ready it for its new skin. Stone chip and scratch repairs, old weathered paint striping, rust removal from metal frames and seized screws or fittings. These are just a few repairs that may or may not need to be attended to before a paint job can even be applied. Even a brand new frame requires surface preparation before any paint goes down.
Touch ups and restoration
Stone chips, scratches and weathered worn out finishes are all a part of life. Your bike may only need a touch up in areas that have been damaged. Air’n’Paint can fill or repair the damage, colour match the exisiting paint work and re-finish these areas to create a seamless restoration without having to re-paint the entire bike. This is a cost affective option to bringing your bike back to the straight out of the shop look and feel.
